Apartment Life Hacks for Wilmington, NC Renters with Pets
/We love pets! On top of being pet owners ourselves, here at Nora Alan Rentals, we are proud to be pet-friendly throughout all of our rentals in Wilmington, NC. However, we do know that when renting in Wilmington, NC with pets brings their owners a lot of day-to-day nuisances, including litter all over the floor, scratches up and down the hardwood and all over the furniture, and general disarray that comes from sheer boredom after being home alone all day.
But some of these small problems have easy solutions. We came up with a list of hacks that will keep you, your pet, and even your landlord happy in your pet-friendly apartment!
- Deterrent Hacks: Within any Wilmington, NC apartment, there are some places that you just do not want your furry friend in. Maybe your paper-filled desk, kitchen counter-top, or pantry. Did you know that dogs will avoid anything rubbed with Bitter Apple Spray? Me neither, and this hack is an easy pick-up at your local pet store. Cats? They instinctively avoid citrus - who knew! Try spraying a citrus-scented cleaner in those areas that you want to keep your cuddly pet out of.
- Pet Hair Removal Hacks: Woof. How 'bout that dog hair? Agreeably, we wouldn't trade the love of our sweet pups for the world, but they sure do come with a lot of hair. Try taking slightly damp rubber gloves and run your hands along your furniture. The hair will cling to the dampness of the rubber.
- Scratching Post Hacks: Are you sick of coming home and being greeted by your tragically scratched up couch all thanks to your furry friend? We know the feeling. Both cats and dogs like to scratch to mark territory, and also, just because it feels good to them. So, give them something they’re allowed to scratch up.
If you don’t have room for a scratching post, make your own using coarse sandpaper glued onto a wide piece of wood. If your cat or dog likes to stand up and scratch, try hanging it on a wall close to the ground.
- Boredom Hacks: We know the moment- the moment when you come home to your garbage ripped apart and tossed all over your kitchen floor with your so-called "innocent" dog pridefully sitting next to it.
If you're worried about your pet being bored all day while you're gone, try giving them an activity that keeps their mind working and occupied throughout the day. DIY it up - cut a 2-inch slice into a tennis ball and fill it with small treats and short strips of fabric. This will keep your sweet pup focused on getting the treats inside the ball and away from the garbage bin.
